Programs

FOG’s mission is to help young athletes play, compete, and excel by providing scholarships, team funding, equipment, and partnering with like-minded organizations to amplify our impact.

PROGRAMS

Since its founding, Friends of Golf (FOG) has supported junior golfers with the passion and talent for the game, who may lack the financial means to participate. FOG’s mission is to support junior golfers by providing scholarships, team funding, equipment, and partnering with like-minded organizations.

Scholarships

Many aspiring golfers face the additional challenge of affording college, which can put their dreams on hold. To help, FOG offers a range of scholarships designed to turn those dreams into reality.

These scholarships support young golfers who wish to continue their journey, whether pursuing golf for personal enjoyment or as a professional career. FOG maintains more than a dozen active scholarships, ensuring opportunities for the next generation of golfers.

Team Funding

Friends of Golf (FOG) supports over 500 high school golf teams through our California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) donations. We fund three sections, including Los Angeles, Southern, and San Diego. In the coming years, our goal is to expand into additional CIF sections to broaden our impact and help even more high school golfers play, compete, and excel.

Here is a photo of the Venice High School Golf Team, one of the teams that benefits from FOG donations. Many of the Venice High School students (and even some of their staff and parents) choose to give back by volunteering at FOG’s annual golf tournament, helping to propel FOG’s fundraising. This is just one way our junior golfers and their supporters show their gratitude and commitment to the FOG mission.

Friends of Golf (FOG) supports golfers at the collegiate level.  FOG funds 18 California colleges and universities directly, and with our Evans Scholars Foundation partnership, we support additional 27 colleges and universities across the country. FOG’s mission is to help collegiate athletes pursue both their academic and golfing dreams.

Here is a photo of the UCLA Golf Team, one of the programs that benefit directly from FOG support. As a thank you, UCLA donates time and unique auction items to the FOG annual golf tournament. We appreciate how our donation recipients help extend FOG’s impact with their support.

Turn Wood and Iron into Gold (TWIG)

FOG launched its popular Turn Wood and Iron into Gold (TWIG) program in the 1990s to provide pre-owned golf equipment to boys and girls eager to play high school golf but lacking the resources to participate.

Generous FOG participants donate clubs, bags, putters, balls, shoes, and gloves that might otherwise sit unused, giving young golfers access to the equipment they need. The gear is distributed through California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) sections directly to coaches who rely on these donations to build competitive teams.

Partners

Whether it is to fund a scholarship or get new equipment, FOG partners with other like-minded foundations to make a big impact for junior golfers.

Friends of Golf (FOG), in partnership with the SCPGA Foundation, Wilson Sporting Goods, and VESSEL Golf Bags, hosted the JM Eagle Championship SCPGA ClubsForeYouth event for four high schools—Antelope Valley, Golden Valley, Hart, and Canyon. Each school received 12 sets of golf clubs, along with backpacks, gloves, and hats for their students.

Events like this exemplify FOG’s mission to support junior golfers from grade school through college, helping them play, compete, and excel in the game, while ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent talented young golfers from pursuing their passion.
