CIF Great Golf Giveaway

CIF Great Golf Giveaway

(November 2, 2017) — The CIF Great Golf Giveaway was held on Wednesday, October 25th at the office of the Southern Section of the California Interscholastic Federation. Thom Simmons, Assistant Commissioner, was on hand to welcome the largest group of golf coaches ever to assemble (33) for the event, to hand pick clubs for the many young golfers in their programs, who may not otherwise have the financial resources to play the game.

One in particular, David Yang, a first-year coach representing Buena Park High School’s golf team, was moved by the number of available clubs and the generosity of those who donated them.

Each year, FOG enlists those who play in their annual charity golf tournament to donate clubs going unused and taking up residency in their garages or car trunks. This year, the members of Bel-Air Country Club also joined the many contributors by hosting their own private club collection program. In years to come, other clubs who have expressed an interest in participating in the program will no doubt be enlisted as well.

The Great Golf Giveaway has been an enormous success highlighted by the number of signed letters the grateful coaches and student golfers have sent to FOG thanking them for the equipment and the opportunity to play the game we all love.
