Lorena was born on November 15 in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco. An athlete, mother, entrepreneur, and an unbreakable promoter of golf in Mexico. She was the best player in the world for 157 consecutive weeks (April 2007-April 2010).
Lorena Ochoa began her professional career in May 2002; she conquered 27 tournaments in the LPGA, including 2 majors: The Women’s British Open in 2007 and The Kraft Nabisco Championship in 2008. From 2006 to 2009 she was honored with “Rolex Player of the year”. She has been recognized by the ESPY’s awards for Best Golf Player in 2009 and 2010, and Best International Athlete in 2009.
Winner of the ‘National Sport Award’ in 2001, 2006 and 2007, making her the most awarded in Mexico. Named one of the World’s Most Powerful People in 2008, same year she was considered one of the 100 Most Influential People by TIME. At the peak of her career, she started the project of bringing the best players in the world to Mexico; then, in November 2008, she became the host of her own tournament, ever since, the tournament brings together the professional golf élite in Mexico.
In 2010, Lorena paused her professional career as a golf player to focus on her Foundation and other altruistic activities, as well as to the design of golf courses, and other personal projects. Until this day she still keeps her interest in spreading golf and its practice through different projects, among them: Lorena Ochoa Golf Foundation, a project that supports golf practice in the United States.
In March of 2012, she started a new path, she became the host of the TV show ‘Vive el Golf’ that airs on CNN en Español with a rating of 34 million people. A 30-minute show that shows how golf is growing and getting more popular in Latin America.
In November 2012 she published her book “Dream Big” with Random House Mondadori Editorial Group, the biography has been presented in fairs such as the International Book Fair in Guadalajara, FIL, and the International Book fair in Los Angeles, LeaLA. “Dream Big” has also been translated to English and has been commercialized in the English-speaking market.
One of Lorena’s most recent projects, after retiring from professional golf is the conference program Human Training Field Conferences, a project focused on any person, organization or company at any level. It offers a vision, and attitude towards life, based on the experiences that took Lorena Ochoa to being one of the most successful sporting figures in the last years; with the objective of pushing and supporting both people and organizations towards new personal or professional goals and challenges.
Ochoa leaders the new development of a touristic complex in Nayarit’s Rivera: Punta Canuva, Lorena and Greg Norman are in charge of the Golf course included in the project, that will also become the first golf course named after Lorena Ochoa in Mexico and the World.
In May of 2017, Lorena returned to the competition at the Hall of Famers Golf Celebration an exhibition event that brought together the highest figures of international women’s golf: Annika Sörenstam, Se-ri Pak and Juli Inkster. An event parallel to CITIBANAMEX LORENA OCHOA MATCH PLAY PRESENTED BY AEROMÉXICO AND DELTA that brought together the best players in the world in Mexico City.
In September 2017, Lorena was officially inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame under the category of “Female Competitor”, making her the first Mexican, Latin American golfer and one of the youngest women to be distinguished as a member of the WGHOF (World Golf Hall of Fame).
In 2018, Mattel recognizes Lorena as one of the most influential women at the international level making a tribute with her own Barbie Lorena Ochoa.
